PEF Retirees eye adding service charge

As 2001 gets underway, membership in PEF Retirees will certainly grow. We gained more than 1,000 members last year.
We have just one full-time employee to staff our office at PEF headquarters in Albany.
She does a wonderful job of running the office and answering more than 20 calls per day.
A large part of the work is handling dues payments.
We help lighten that workload when we have our PEF Retiree dues of $1 per month automatically deducted from our pension checks. This also prevents lapsed memberships.
Because handling dues payments made by check is so time consuming for us, I will propose at the February meeting of the PEF Retirees Executive Board, that a $3 service charge be imposed on members who pay by check.
