Bill
outlawing discrimination signed into law
 PEF scored wins and losses as the
last remaining bills passed in the 2002 state legislative
session finally landed on the governor’s desk in
December.
On the win side of the ledger, Gov. George Pataki signed
bill S.720/A.1971 which amends the state Executive Law to
prohibit discrimination in employment, education, public
accommodations and other areas of commerce on the basis
of sexual orientation.
PEF has been supporting legislation to address this
issue.
On the other hand, Pataki vetoed bill S.7580/A.11619 that
would have entitled persons with work-related
disabilities to a two-year leave of absence if they could
show a reasonable likelihood of recovery. The current law
limits the maximum leave to one year.
This is the second time the governor has vetoed this
