NYS elections, pension issues loom large for retirees in 2006
On behalf of PEF Retirees, I would like to extend our best wishes to everyone as we venture into 2006.
The new year will bring many challenges. We will vote for a new governor and state Legislature. PEF Retirees hopes all our members will support and vote for those candidates who are most committed to our issues.
We want more protections for our health insurance benefits. Three times, our governor has vetoed legislation that would move us toward protecting those benefits.
The fiscal integrity of our pension system is equally important. Now that it is being managed as it should be, our state retirement fund is fiscally sound and growing. Let’s get serious about achieving an enhanced cost-of-living increase. It’s deserved and the fund can afford it.
PEF Retirees understands some forces in our country disregard the elderly and seek to diminish our benefits. This is unacceptable. New York state should demonstrate to America how seniors should be treated in a just society.
We need everyone to work to protect our rights and benefits. You should help.
This is the year to become active in your PEF Retirees chapter, to take advantage of the automatic dues deduction option, and to expand our numbers by encouraging our fellow retirees to join with us.
