PEF endorses Democrat for 24th
AD in Feb. 9 special election
PEF has endorsed Democrat and former NY
City Council Finance Chair David Weprin in a special election being held
Tuesday, February 9, to fill a mid-term vacancy in the 24th Assembly
District.
The state Assembly seat, which represents the Little Neck area of Queens
County, was vacated by the resignation of Mark Weprin, who left it after 15
years to serve on the New York City Council. David and Mark Weprin are
brothers. Their father, Saul Weprin, represented the 24th AD until his death
in 1993.
The endorsement was recommended by the PEF Region 11 Political Action
Committee and confirmed by the union’s statewide PAC in January.
February 9 special elections also will be held to fill three other mid-term
vacancies in state Assembly seats representing portions of Nassau, Suffolk
and Westchester counties. So far, no PEF endorsements have been made in
these races. However, members in these areas should check with their PEF
regional coordinator for an update.
