Pataki vetoes Whistleblower Protection bill

Legislation that would have given whistleblower protection to health-care workers in New York state died in late January when time ran out for Gov. George Pataki to sign it into law.

The bill would have strengthened the protection for people who report corruption and dangerous conditions in nursing homes and home-care agencies.

The legislation, which passed both the state Senate and Assembly with strong bipartisan support last year, is expected to be reintroduced in the current session.
