Labor rep wins on Jeopardy!

Amanda Freisem had her “15 minutes of fame” in January when she joined the ranks of other PEF members who have won on “Jeopardy!,” a popular trivia-quiz game show on television.

A labor services representative from Brentwood, Freisem said she won $18,000 on “Jeopardy!” The program aired January 23 and 24.

“I had a wonderful time. It was a lot of fun,” Freisem said. “Everyone associated with the show was just great and made you feel so special.”

Freisem got on the show by taking an online test in January 2007. Four months later, she was invited to Manhattan for another written test and to see how the show works.

“There were about a dozen people and we were divided into groups of three to play a mock game. We answered about 10 questions and we were also interviewed by a host, the same way Alex Trebec makes small talk to each of the contestants,” she said.

Freisem received a final call in September and taped the show in Los Angeles in October. It aired three months later.
If you’re wondering if she spent her free time reading Wikipedia, she didn’t.

“It’s hard to plan what to study when the categories are so broad,” Freisem said. “I did review some world capitals and presidential trivia. That’s about it.”

When it came to a category called “Movies by Character,” Friesman won a “daily double” on the game. The answer was Molly Brown and Jack Dawson. Freisem answered correctly with “What is Titanic?”

Will Freisem try out for the show again? Stay tuned.
