Tell
legislators to pass bill to protect your health benefits
For the past several years, PEF Retirees has given its full support to
legislation that would protect health insurance benefits for retirees and their
beneficiaries.
The state Senate and Assembly have passed these bills, but unfortunately the
governor has vetoed this legislation.
We are attempting, once again, to have this law (S.6397/A.9722) enacted. It
would ensure state retiree health insurance coverage will not be diminished
unless an equivalent change is made for active state employees.
PEF Retirees need your help in building support for this bill. Please contact
your state legislators and tell them how important this health care legislation
is. We are also asking state senators and Assembly members to commit to an
override if the legislation is vetoed again.
A sample letter with space for your personal comments is on our Web page at the
PEF Web site. Additional information for support of this legislation is also
there. Log on to www.pef.org and click on
Retirees; then, under Communications, click on Health Care letters — Legis.
Included with these letters is a list of ideas for how to fill in the blank
spaces on the letters. And you’ll find a list of the legislators and their
districts to help you find the correct name of your Senator or Assembly member.
Use the legislator’s address shown on the letter.
PEF Retirees chapter presidents also have copies of this information and will be
glad to share this with you. Or contact PEF Retirees Program Director Hiram
Eberlein at 800-342-4306, ext. 432 for specific information.
Now is the time to “walk the walk.”
Help us flood the state Legislature with letters and personal contacts telling
them: It’s time they demonstrate their commitment to state retirees.
