Just retired from state service? Stay connected, stay active: Join PEF Retirees

If you are one of the many PEF members who recently retired from NYS service, or if you expect to retire soon, we hope you will join our PEF Retirees organization.

Joining PEF Retirees will give you the chance to use your skills to enrich your life.

The best way retirees can get the benefits they need is by organizing. To be effective as an organization we need your active participation and assistance. Our ability to provide retirees the quality of living they deserve depends directly on the number and activism of our members.

Membership in PEF Retirees allows you to participate in several PEF Retiree benefit programs including many you previously enjoyed as a PEF member. These include:
• Subscription to The Communicator;
• Dental/vision program;
• Legal service plan;
• Defensive driving program;
• Home and automobile insurance;
• Travel rebate through PEF Travel;
• Discounted cell phone service;
• Car rental discounts; and
• Discounted tickets for movies, skiing and amusement parks.

The political effectiveness of retirees is potentially enormous because legislators know that mature citizens (and their families) vote. By concentrating our demands through a retiree organization, we can achieve our legislative and benefits goals.

PEF Retirees educates state and federal lawmakers about the need to improve our pension system, our health care benefits, our tax liabilities and all aspects of our lives through the legislative process.

We are also affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers Retirees (AFT, AFL-CIO) on the local and national level. AFT is well suited to handle our interests on the congressional level in Washington.

We work with PEF and are represented on PEF’s Political Action Committee and Executive Board.

We are also part of a coalition of 27 public-employee retiree organizations and we frequently work with other local and state senior citizen organizations.
