Get help prepping for NY state’s Promotion Test Battery
exams
By SHERRY HALBROOK
PEF members who register to take the state’s Promotion Test Battery (PTB) exams
this spring will be glad to hear an expanded packet of materials to help them
prepare for the tests is available from the PEF Membership Benefits Program (MBP).
PEF’s Education and Training staff worked with Syracuse University to develop
the guides to help members score well on the exams that are key to opening the
door to promotions to higher level state jobs.
“We began distributing the new packets in April,” said MBP Administrator Philip
Occhino.
You can request your PTB study packet online at
www.pef.org or call 1-800-342-4306, ext. 243.
In addition to an expanded and updated study guide, the packets include both a
new learning guide focusing on analysis of written communication, and a second
practice simulation exam.
“The study guide will be similar to those we’ve provided in the past. They have
examples of the kinds of questions you may find on the exams, the answers and
explanations,” said Clifford Merchant, PEF’s director of education, training and
human resources.
“We have many benefits and discounts for PEF members,” said Occhino, “but
providing the study guides is one of the most rewarding because it will help
members get promotions.
“It would be awesome,” he said, “to hear from members who take these tests that
the guides helped them pass.”
Occhino said the learning guide “is a new tool developed as a pilot section to
be used in conjunction with the other study material. Members can let Membership
Benefits know their suggestions on whether additional guides should be
developed.”
