From Holocaust ashes, hope

The PEF Jewish Committee held A Yom HaShoah Holocaust Remembrance Program April 8 at the PEF offices in Manhattan.

Sadness was mixed with hope as guest speakers talked of honoring victims of the Nazi genocide, but also of those whose faith, courage and determination brought them through it to a better life.

Alan Davis, a representative of the International Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs discussed the Yom HaShoah Yellow Candle Program and distributed yellow candles for International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

PEF member and author Chris Nicola told the story of a Jewish family from the Ukraine that survived for more than a year by hiding in Priests Grotto, one of the world’s largest caves. Nicola has written a book about the family and how he discovered their secret.
