Today’s Lesson: Fairness and Respect

Teachers and other professionals at the NYS School for the Deaf in Rome and the NYS School for the Blind in Batavia have been working without a contract for three years, all because New York State hasn’t learned how to play fairly!

What’s blocking an agreement? The state’s refusal to give the instructors at the schools the same benefits given to all other state teachers: removing the delay in receiving performance advances retroactive to September 2000, and giving all full-time school employees an option to keep their health insurance during the summer.

And the state is demanding additional concessions!

That’s why the employees — represented by the New York State Public Employees Federation — held rallies outside the schools on Thursday, May 2.

Send a message to the Governor’s Office, the State Education Department, and the superintendents of the schools.

Call the governor today toll-free at 1-877-255-9417, and the superintendent of the School for the Deaf at 315-337-8400.

Tell them to stop disrespecting the top-notch professionals at the Schools for the Deaf and Blind, who deliver the highest quality education to their students with special needs.
