PEF members: Check out your PEF Election
Guide; Ballots due June 26
By SHERRY HALBROOK
If you are a PEF member, you should find a 2006 Election Guide (candidate
directory) supplement in your copy of this Communicator.
Please take a few minutes to carefully review it before completing and mailing
your ballot in PEF’s Triennial Elections for all statewide, regional and
Executive Board offices.
Ballots will be mailed to members June 5 and must be received by the American
Arbitration Association in New York City by 5 p.m. June 26 for counting on June
27.
The Election Guide is only included in copies of this magazine going to PEF
members, because only they are allowed to vote on candidates for PEF offices.
Although feepayers, retirees and others may receive The Communicator, they are
ineligible to vote in PEF elections.
The Election Guide lists some offices (including nine of the 12 regional
coordinator positions) which were filled automatically. This occurred when only
one candidate for an office was certified by the PEF Elections Committee based
on the timely submission of the required number of eligible signatures on
nominating petitions. No balloting is necessary for these offices and board
seats.
In other cases, no one submitted petitions with sufficient eligible signatures
for nomination. Since no candidates were certified for these seats, they will be
the subject of special elections in the fall.
Where two or more candidates for an office or seat were certified, balloting
will be conducted.
All certified candidates were eligible to submit their photos and biographical
or campaign information for inclusion in the Election Guide.
The limits on the amount of information and other rules for submissions to the
Election Guide are specified in the Election Rules (published in the February
2006 issue of The Communicator). If a candidate submitted more information than
allowed, it was cut back to the last full sentence.
The rules allow for no editing, corrections or changes by PEF to the candidates’
information, nor do they allow for any alteration by PEF of the submitted
photos, other than enlargement or reduction to make them fit the allotted space.
