Help PEF Retirees build its membership e-mail database for faster, less costly communication

One of the most important aspects of our PEF Retirees operation is communicating with you, our members. We want you to be aware of all the issues that could affect you as retirees.

However, one of the biggest drains on our treasury is the high cost of mailings.

It costs nearly $30,000 to mail a meeting notice to each of our approximately 10,000 dues-paying members six times a year.

We make every effort to use the least expensive methods, but often our volume is insufficient to take advantage of economies of scale.

One way that we could save considerably is in the use of e-mail. Compared to U.S. mail, e-mail is free. Our costs could drop to $500 or less to notify all of our members of their chapter meetings by e-mail.

Not only would it be far less expensive, we could get important information to you much quicker.
So what’s stopping us? The lack of your e-mail addresses!

Our membership records currently contain slightly less than 1,800 e-mail addresses. Of those, 200 are for members whose dues are in arrears.

To be sure, using those 1,800 names will save us money and we are expending efforts to develop a process to do that now.

We could do so much better if we had e-mail addresses for more of you.

If you are willing to share your e-mail address with us, please e-mail us at retirees@pef.org or call us toll-free at at 1-800-342-4306. ext. 289.

Just as with your mailing address and other personal information, we will hold your e-mail address in strict confidence and use it only to notify and communicate with you on our retiree and labor issues.
