More members opt for a green Communicator
Green CommunicatorA reminder message from one steward to another at the state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) about the option to “go green” with the online version of The Communicator led to more than two dozen members switching over in a 48-hour period in May.

“We just wanted to remind our members about this option,” said Wayne Bayer, a PEF Executive Board member at DEC. “PEF has had a lot of hot-button issues lately with the state. But I am impressed our members took the time to do this.

We are planning a statewide labor-management meeting in mid-July, and have put this on the agenda. It will be another reminder for more members to go green.”

The Communicator launched its green campaign in May 2008, and so far, 651 members have switched over including 190 from DEC.

“Going green is now a way of life,” said PEF President Ken Brynien. “It’s good to see our members are responding. With the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, it’s another wake-up call to everyone to help take care of our planet. This is a small role in the big scheme of things, but we are saving one tree at a time.”

Another advantage of going green with The Communicator is notification with an E-Blast when the current issue is available online. Signing up is simple. Just send your home e-mail address to thecommunicator@pef.org with a request for the online version. Your name will be removed from the print-subscription mailing list, but you will receive all other PEF mailings at your home address.

If you find you miss paging through a print version, you can restart your Communicator print subscription at any time. — Deborah A. Miles
