Nominees sought for statewide officer, E-Board

Nominations are sought to fill one vice president vacancy and six vacancies on the PEF Executive Board, according to PEF Special Elections Committee members Robert Grace, Edith Cooper and Vivian Street.

Nominating petitions become available October 16 to fill a statewide vice-president seat and the following six Executive Board seats:

Seat 90 — representing members of the state Education Department — Higher Education Services Corporation (PEF Division 355).

Seat 101 — representing members of the state Education Department — All of SUNY (except for SUNY HSC Brooklyn, SUNY HSC Syracuse and SU Stonybrook).

Seat 130 — representing members of the Executive Department — Parks and Recreation agencies statewide.

Seat 210 — representing members of the Department of Labor — State Insurance Fund — Accounting Operations, Confidential Investigation, Field Services, Internal Audits, Media and Publications, Premium Audit, Underwriting and Legal (PEF Division 240).

Seat 225—Representing members of the Department of Labor - Workers Compensation Board and Labor in PEF Regions 4-7.

Seat 540—Representing members of the Not-For-Profit Charitable Organization and For-Profit Organization - Narcotic and Drug Research, Inc., (agency #99001); and members of the Narcotic and Drug Research, Inc. State & Administration Services (agency #99003): and members of Lockport Hospital (agency 99006).

Nominating petitions are returnable to PEF by November 6, 2000. Candidates for Vice President must have been members since May 10, 2000. Executive Board candidates must have been union members since May 10, 2000.

To sign a nominating petition, members must have belonged to the union since September 22, 2000.

If only one candidate is certified for a post, that candidate will be automatically elected to it.

Elections will be held when more than one candidate is certified for a seat.

Ballots for these seats will be mailed on November 20, 2000; by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) and are returnable to AAA by December 11, 2000. Constituents of a contested seat, who do not receive a ballot by November 27th should contact AAA at 212-484-3220.

To vote, members must have belonged to the union and the specific constituency they wish to vote in since November 6, 2000.

Those elected will serve the remainder of a three-year term, which expires July 31, 2003.
