NYS should have ‘Rule of 80’

To the Editor:
Has any thought been given to a retirement incentive for those in Tier 1 who are not yet 55 years old?

It seems unfair to allow individuals from other tiers to retire without penalty.

Meanwhile, those with 30 years of service, but not yet age 55, have a penalty for early retirement.

Some other organizations have the “rule of 80.” This means anyone with a combination of years of service and age that total 80 is eligible to retire and, in some cases, without penalty.

Please encourage negotiators to help all union members, not just the majority.

ALICE M. CZARNIKIEWICZ
