SHARING INFORMATION — PEF Region 11 Coordinator Elect Jemma Marie-Hanson (right) hands out workshop information to participants at the Nurses’ Conference Day at the New York City PEF Office on May 15.

Nurses conference addresses timely topics

More than 60 PEF nurses walked away with information on bioterriorism, and other relevant topics at Nurses Conference Day in May.

The one-day conference was held at the PEF office in Manhattan and attracted nurses from around the state.

“The nurses were really happy with the presentations and appreciated having an education day,” said Region 11 Coordinator Elect Jemma Marie-Hanson.

“Everyone was impressed with the information on bioterriorism,” she said. “The other topics were also well-received.”

Presentations included nurses’ rights and the law regarding patient abandonment, the injured and battered worker, how to deal with domestic violence in the workplace, and the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

“The EAP workshop was very beneficial,” said Gracy James, a nurse 2 at Pilgrim Psychiatric Center. “The open discussions among the nurses also helped us express our feelings by sharing problems and concerns.

“We brought back a lot of information which will help in dealing with the issues we face today.” — Deborah A. Miles
