New
officers take the reins
After eight years as president of PEF Retirees, I chose
not to run for re-election due to personal health
problems.
The PEF Retiree Executive Board elected Dave Grier as
president. Cal Thayer was elected first vice-president
and Mary Reid was elected second vice-president. Eileen
Spence was elected secretary.
Dave Grier asked me to serve as the PEF Retiree member of
the PEF Statewide Political Action Committee and I
accepted.
On June 3, the new officers and I met with PEF President
Roger Benson. Several changes are being made in the
relationship between PEF and PEF Retirees.
One change being considered is the development of a PEF
Retirees newsletter.
PEF is also considering paying the first year of its
members dues to PEF Retirees following their
retirement. Other changes will be reported to you as they
arise.
In 1995, the PEF Retiree membership was a little more
than 4,000. We now have grown to 13,000 members. In the
next few years, the growth of our organization will be
even greater.
Even though this was a hectic legislative year, PEF was
able to block the governors budget proposal to
shift a greater share of the cost for their health
insurance to the state retirees.
It has been an enjoyable eight years of service for me
and I am looking forward to a good year.
I ask that we all continue to give our unfailing support
to our new elected officers.
