 A message from PEF Retirees
President Ray Ferraro
Your check's in the mail
You should have received
your October 1st pension check by now with your new Cola
adjustments. I hope its calculated correctly and
you are smiling.
The Alliance of Public Employee Retiree Organizations
presented a plaque to PEF President Roger Benson at the
unions convention last month in Syracuse in
recognition of PEFs full and aggressive support for
the COLA legislation.
The alliance is comprised of some 40
public-employee-retiree organizations, including PEF
Retirees.
In late August, Region 3 Chapter President Jim Adsit and
I attended state Comptroller H. Carl McCalls
luncheon at the NY State Fair in Syracuse. The
comptroller also thanked PEF and PEF Retirees for their
help in passing the COLA legislation.
PEF Retirees is growing steadily. As a result of a recent
mailing done on our behalf by PEF Membership Benefits,
more than 600 new members have joined, with another 100
in process.
The AFL-CIO is forming and sponsoring the National
Alliance for Retired Americans. The AFL-CIO has formally
supported the National Council of Senior Citizens (NCSC),
but that support is expected to end with the formation of
the new alliance.
All unions affiliated with the National AFL-CIO will help
fund this new alliance to focus and coordinate action on
issues important to unions, their retired members and
other seniors.
We are finally being recognized as the powerful, untapped
reserve of veteran unionists that we are.
Chapter Meetings:
Albany meets at noon Oct. 2 at PEF headquarters.
Utica meets at noon Oct. 5 at the PEF Region 6
field office.
Long Island meets at noon Oct. 25 at the PEF
Region 12 office.
