It’s been two years since terrorists waged war on America, killing thousands including 34 PEF members who worked at the
World Trade Center.

It’s been said time heals all wounds. Yet the enormous impact of that paralyzing day, known simply as September 11, still evokes great sadness. It is a day no one will ever be able to forget.

To honor PEF’s fallen WTC members and 10 others who perished while working on the job, PEF held its’ second memorial service on September 11.

PEF President Roger Benson told the crowd of PEF officials, staff and lawmakers, “Let us honor their lives by rededicating ourselves to our public service. We face difficult times ahead. We should commit to work tirelessly and remove, as they did, the obstacles that stand in our way. It is what our fallen colleagues would do and we can do no less.”

Benson and PEF Secretary-Treasurer Jane Hallum placed a wreath in front of the monument during the memorial service. A bell was rung as each name was read by a statewide officer. — Story and Photo by Deborah A. Miles
