Six vacancies on PEF Executive Board subject of special
election
A special election process is under way to fill six vacancies on the PEF
Executive Board.
Five of the seats were not filled in the regular triennial elections in June
because no candidates for these seats were certified. The sixth vacancy is for a
seat that was filled in that election, but the successful candidate resigned.
Which seats are vacant?
Nominating petitions were due October 24 (after this issue of The Communicator
went to press) for candidates to fill:
Seat 50 representing members at the state Department of Correctional Services
facilities Sing Sing, Green Haven, Bedford Hills, Arthur Kill, Queensboro,
Taconic, Bayview, Edgecombe, Lincoln, Fulton and central administration offices
in New York city;
Seat 85 representing members (other than teaching and research nurse 2s) at
the state University of New York Health and Science Center in Syracuse, and all
members in SUNY at central administration, and the following campuses Albany,
Alfred, Binghamton, Brockport, Buffalo State, Buffalo University, Canton,
Columbia-Greene, Cortland, Delhi, Empire State, Environmental Science and
Forestry, Fredonia, Geneseo, Morrisville, New Paltz, Oswego, Platsburg, Potsdam,
and Purchase;
Seat 125 representing members at the state Office of General Services;
Seat 180 representing members at the state Health Department (including those
on the main office payroll) working in PEF Regions 1-7 (except Saranac Lake), in
Herkimer, and at the Oxford and Batavia Veterans Homes;
Seat 190 representing state Health Department members (including those on the
main office payroll) who work in Region 8, at the Wadsworth Centers, Axelrod,
Griffin and all related labs; and
Seat 350 representing members at the Hudson Valley Developmental Disabilities
Services Office.
What if?
If only one candidate for a seat is certified, that candidate will automatically
be elected.
If more than one candidate is certified, ballots will be mailed November 7,
returnable to the American Arbitration Association by November 30 for counting
December 1.
If no candidate is certified for a seat, petitioning will begin again during the
next quarterly special election to fill vacancies.
