College offers PEF members tuition discount
By MARY CAROLINE POWERS

The College of Saint Rose in Albany has responded to a request from PEF President Roger Benson and agreed to provide PEF members with a tuition discount for the spring 2000 semester.

The lack of a negotiated PS&T contract with the state has left members trying to acquire additional education without a voucher program to defray the expense.
Benson expressed his appreciation to St. Rose for the offer, and added his thanks to "members for taking the time to mobilize with me around this very important issue."
Benson wrote to more than 200 colleges in the state in September explaining the effect the embroiled negotiations have had on the voucher program, and asking if they would consider providing a tuition discount similar to that extended by The Sage Colleges in the Capital District for the Fall '99 semester.

Benson also asked PEF members to contact educational institutions in their regions and urge them to consider a tuition discount similar to the one offered by Sage.
St. Rose responded with an offer of a $125 discount per credit hour up to a maximum of four credit hours for either an undergraduate or graduate course. The offer is limited to the Spring 2000 semester.

PEF members who wish to take advantage of the discount should have a PEF membership card and a copy of the letter from Dean Anne M. Tully of St. Rose that outlines the arrangement when they register for a course.

Those who need a copy of the letter may contact PEF's Education and Training Department at 518-785-1900 ext. 328.
