The New York State Public Employees Federation, AFL-CIO,
seeks to fill a vacancy in each of the following two positions:

Assistant Director of Labor Relations (Nursing Policy)
This is an Albany based position
Position Summary: Responsible for advising and representing the PEF president on all matters related to PEF-represented nurses. Identify, develop, and effectuate PEF policies necessary to effectively represent members in nursing titles; oversee identification and development of legislative initiatives; recommend to president PEF’s position on legislation and regulatory changes proposed by other organizations; work with president and other elected leaders to identify PEF goals and objectives to address nursing issues. Provide guidance and assistance to Statewide Nurses Committee and labor-management committees in agencies with nursing titles. Supervisory duties: Act as labor relations director in director’s absence.

Qualifications: Registered nurse, with Master’s degree in nursing and at least five years experience in labor relations as elected union official and/or union staff representative preferred. Bachelor’s degree and experience may qualify candidate. Supervisory experience a plus. Excellent oral and written skills; leadership skills; flexibility in hours; travel.

Salary: Minimum starting salary $58,845 to be determined by experience, with 3.5 % scheduled raise 7/1/02. Excellent employer-paid benefits.

(Temporary) Field Representative — Poughkeepsie Office
Position Summary: The field representative monitors and enforces collective-bargaining agreements, linking members, division leaders and stewards, and PEF departments. He/she will resolve members’ problems using the contract, state and federal laws, and union-organizing principles, and will prepare and present improper-practice cases before PERB. He/she conducts training for stewards and union activists.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have experience in grievance processing, background in labor relations, knowledge of Civil Service Law, negotiations experience, knowledge of state operations and good communication skills. A labor-relations or related-field college degree is preferred.

Salary: Minimum starting salary is $38,251, to be determined by experience, with a 3.5 percent raise scheduled for July 1, 2002. Excellent employer-paid benefits. This position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.
