When a pedestrian bridge under construction collapsed in
Marcy, PEF member Ted Fox was thrown approximately 25
feet to the road below and sustained a broken arm, and
back and pelvic injuries.
Fox is a principal engineering technician, an inspector,
in PEF Division 166 and was overseeing the final stages
of construction when the accident occurred in early
October.
PEF responded immediately, said Region 6
Coordinator Michael DelPiano. As soon as we learned
of the accident, we sent a letter to his family extending
assistance from the union both regionally and centrally.
We also sent a booklet on Workers Compensation, and
offered PEFs help navigating through that
system.
Members at the state Department of Transportation in
Utica collected and sent the family $120 to help defray
travel and other expenses, as Fox was transferred to
Albany Medical Center because of the extent of his
injuries. Later, he was transferred to Sitrin Medical
Rehabilitation Center, about 45 miles from his home.
To continue helping with expenses not covered by
insurance, Division 166 Council Leader Ken Denison said
PEF Region 6 divisions are asking for additional
contributions.
The outpouring has been tremendous, said PEF
member Ted Fox III, the injured members son and a
DOT senior engineering technician. My family is
grateful to have a union that truly supports its
members.
Donations may be sent and made payable to Charlotte Fox,

Court, New Hartford, NY 13413.
