RETIREES IN ACTION

A message from PEF Retirees President Jim Carr
Join us to protect what you’ve earned

Jim CarrIn 2011, we have seen our membership grow and we have continued to establish a positive working relationship with PEF and the Membership Benefits Program (MBP) which now administers our dental plan.

We held our annual leadership conference in Corning, where we picketed Congressman Tom Reed’s office because of his support for attacks on Social Security and Medicare. Many of our members provided us with positive feedback on both the conference and the protest. PEF Retirees continues to address attacks on our Social Security, Medicare and health insurance.

2011 was a year filled with challenges as both Washington and Albany seemed intent on cutting programs and benefits, rather than raising revenue.

We have all worked hard our entire lives to enjoy the benefits and perks of retirement. So let’s work to keep those hard-earned benefits. PEF Retirees is a group of retirees who, like you, dedicated their lives to public service. Many of us were active PEF members and some are former PEF regional coordinators.

Your statewide president and chapter presidents work hard every day to preserve Social Security, fight health-care-premium increases and to safeguard our pensions. We are comprised of a voluntary Executive Board of 11 chapter presidents representing all areas of New York, and a retirees representative to the PEF Executive Board, who votes at PEF E-Board meetings in the best interest of our members.

Whether it’s legislative campaigning, phone banks, political rallies, or contacting state legislators on your behalf, your chapter presidents are constantly fighting for you, and your hard-earned benefits.
The future is yours, so make sure you join the PEF Retirees when you retire.

We have more than 18,000 members. If you join PEF Retirees when you retire, PEF will pay your dues for the first year of membership. Don’t waste that benefit.

You may join up to five years before your expected retirement date.
Start your future with an organization that cares, and fights every day to protect what is rightfully yours. Get involved and preserve what you have already earned.

I look forward to welcoming you and all PEF members into the ranks of the PEF Retirees when you retire.
