Schulkin new Region 11 Coordinator

Special PEF elections fill three vacancies, but three more E. Board seats are open

By SHERRY HALBROOK
Alan Schulkin is now PEF coordinator in Region 11 — Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island.

According to PEF’s Special Elections Committee, no balloting was necessary since Schulkin was the only candidate who submitted nominating petitions signed by a sufficient number of eligible PEF members.

Schulkin will serve the remainder of the unexpired three-year term, which ends July 31, 2003.

Two vacant seats on the PEF Executive Board were also filled in February by candidates automatically elected as the only ones submitting nominating petitions with sufficient valid signatures.

June Edwards fills seat 85, representing some PEF members at University Hospital in Syracuse.

Darwin Richmond fills seat 101, representing some PEF members at the state Education Department — state University of New York agencies.

At this writing in mid-March, the Special Elections Committee has three more vacant seats on the PEF Executive Board to fill in the next quarterly special elections.
These seats are:
• Seat 90 representing some PEF members at the state Education Department — Higher Education Services Corp;

• Seat 200 representing some PEF members at the state Health Department main office — PEF Regions 9-12, and at the state Veterans Home in New York city; and

• Seat 540 representing some members working at National Development and Research Inc., and at Lockport Hospital.

Petitioning begins April 23 and ends May 14 to nominate candidates to fill these unexpired terms ending July 31, 2003.

You must have been a PEF member since November 15, 2000 to run for one of the vacant board seats.

To sign a nominating petition, you must have been a PEF member since March 30, 2001.

If more than one eligible candidate is nominated for a seat, a special election will be held. Ballots will be mailed to members of that constituency on May 29, returnable to the American Arbitration Association (AAA) by June 19.

You must have been a PEF member since May 14, 2001 to be eligible to vote in any of these elections if they are held. Any eligible member of the constituency who does not receive a ballot by June 5 should contact AAA at 212-484-3220 to request one.
