PEF Division 236 awards scholarships
PEF members at the state Division of Parole continue to honor the memory of Neil Boyle, founder of PEF Division 236, by awarding $500 college scholarships to 10 children of its members.
The scholarships are not only a tribute to Boyle, but a way to remind children that parole officers place a high value on education.
This year, 59 valid applications were received. Father Peter Colopietro, parole chaplain, randomly selected the winners out of a hat after a Parole Memorial Ceremony held at Holy Cross Church in New York City in December.
The scholarship winners are:
• Matthew Angrisani, son of Edward Angrisani, Peekskill office;
• Heather and Matthew Carroll, children of James P. Carroll, Utica office;
• Durand Alric Fulton, son of Durand Fulton, Suffolk office;
• Maureen Gardner, daughter of Debra Gardner, Bronx office;
• Kimberly McDowell, daughter of Brenda Cromer, Brooklyn office;
• Chontelai C. Patterson, daughter of Chandra Perry-Patterson, New York City office;
• Laureen E. Scalzo, daughter of Daniel Scalzo, Rochester office;
• Omar Shabazz, son of Evelyn Lamont, Bronx office; and
• Erin Tanea, daughter of Sheila Tanea, Rochester office.
Four alternates were selected in case one or more winners become ineligible. The alternates are:
• Kamaria Burns, daughter of Sylvester Burns, Hempstead office;
• Gregory J. Jabaut, son of James Jabaut, Altona office;
• Melody Ortega, daughter of Nydia Garcia, Bronx office;
• Dennis C. Void Jr., son of Dennis Void, Manhattan office.
