PEF, Retirees build strong partnership
PEF President Roger Benson and PEF Retirees and have reached an agreement on how to build a strong alliance to support the needs and goals of both groups.
PEF will provide enhanced support for a number of our top needs and goals, including pensions, Social Security and health care, and we will continue to reorganize and mobilize our members to support PEF political, legislative, contract and other goals.
At the January meeting of the PEF Retirees Executive
Board, President Benson and I issued a memo outlining that agreement.
President Benson expressed his appreciation for our retirees’ efforts in the recent national and state elections, some spending weeks and months campaigning with PEF in Pennsylvania and New Hampshire.
He also pointed out that PEF’s PS&T contract team was able to preserve our retirees’ health benefits in spite of strong pressure from the state to reduce them.
Protecting Social Security for current and future retirees will probably be the focus of one of our first, and most important, joint efforts with PEF. By working together and with other retiree groups and unions we stand a much better chance of preserving this vital program.
We hope to hold organizational meetings soon to form chapters for our retirees in Regions 6 and 9. So, if that’s where you live, please watch for your invitation and join us. And please let us know if you would be willing to serve in a leadership position and help get your chapter organized.
