Mobilizer conference, workshops aim for success
By DEBORAH A. MILES
The second annual fully mobilized division conference will take place March 5-7 in Albany. This year’s theme — “a passport to success” — promises to bring mobilizers to a higher level with new techniques and resources.
The three-day conference will include a plenary session and panel presentation on outstanding examples of mobilization in 2003.
Assembly Member Susan John will be the keynote speaker during Saturday’s luncheon. The conference also will offer a series of workshops for new and experienced
mobilizers.
One workshop will focus on using health and safety issues as a mobilizing tool. Another will address political action with training on how to “push Bush out the door in 2004.”
“Since the last conference, we have 50 new fully mobilized divisions,” said PEF President Roger Benson. “Our members are becoming more and more aware of the need for the union to unite and maintain a communications network during these times.
“This conference is designed to educate, enhance and empower each division with ways to achieve our goals, whether it be for a fair contract or to elect a new U.S. president next fall,” Benson said.
PEF leaders expect representatives from more than half of the 170 fully mobilized divisions will attend the conference and learn how to plan and conduct local, state and federal mobilization campaigns in the year ahead.
