Poor dentistry a big pain

To the Editor:
I recently had unsatisfactory dental work performed by a participating provider. I would like to have the work redone by another provider.

I seem to be getting stonewalled by the insurance carrier, GHI. I intend to proceed with the work. A complaint is on file with GHI.

Members, remember to ask if there are any complaints against a dentist you intend to use.

Editor’s note: To determine if a dentist has a currently valid license or a record of any disciplinary action, check with the state Education Department’s Office of the Professions (OP) in one of the following ways:
• Visit the OP Web site at www.op.nysed.gov;
• Call 518-474-3817;
• E-mail op4info@mail.nysed.gov; or
• Write to the NYS Education Department, Office of the Professions, State Education Building - 2nd floor, 89 Washington Avenue, Albany, NY 12234.

In addition, if you believe your dentist has failed to meet expected standards of practice, you may file a complaint with the OP.
For more information, contact the OP Complaint Hotline at 1-800-442-8106 or conduct@mail.nysed.gov.
