Time to nominate a privatization buster for ’04
Time to nominate a privatization buster for ’04
With contracting-out being a major issue in workplaces across the state, more and more members are becoming involved in efforts to save state jobs and fight privatization. This year, PEF is again looking for a top privatization buster.
“The most important thing a PEF member can do is keep his or her ear to the ground, find out where there are problems and get involved in the fight to stop them,” said PEF President Roger Benson. “The Privatization Buster Award is our way of honoring an individual for not only recognizing a problem, but taking action to correct it.”
The first Privatization Fight-Back Award was presented to Region 1 activist Tom Grace, who called attention to certain State Employees Federal Appeal charities that compete with PEF members for state work.
Dennis Beagle received the honor for his fight in Washington and defense of state services to veterans.
Ed Snow blew the whistle on a state plan to allow a contractor to duplicate some of the services performed by PEF members at Sunmount Developmental Disabilities Services Office sites.
Last year, Bill Parolari was recognized for his role in stopping inmate labor and saving jobs for members at the Wyoming Correctional Facility.
