Bill to protect retirees’ health coverage vetoed
In late September, Gov. George Pataki vetoed two more PEF-supported bills and signed one, bringing the total to seven vetoed and six signed.

The governor vetoed S.973A/A.4962A, which would have established clear legislative policy to protect public retirees’ health insurance from May 1, 2004, through May 15, 2005.

And he rejected S.3948/A.5983, which would have allowed arbitrators and attorneys in public-sector-labor arbitrations to issue subpoenas.

The bill that was signed, S.2027B/A.4421B, requires state institutions and buildings be equipped with automated external defibrillators for emergency treatment of heart attacks.
