HOW HIP IS THIS! — PEF Executive Board Member Carlos Garcia, left, gets into the spirit as his brother, Omar Garcia, an organizer for 1199 SEIU in NYC, rapps at a Labor Day weekend ‘Hip-Hop Meets the Labor Movement’ festival in Albany. Carlos was a speaker and Omar performed at the event, which was sponsored by the Capital District Area Labor Federation. The festival, the first of its kind in Albany, celebrated the unity and perseverance of the movements in their common struggle for equity, equality and respect for all people. In addition to numerous speakers and entertainers, the festival offered voter registration, food and crafts.

NO RAIN ON THIS PARADE — PEF Region 3 members, celebrate Labor Day in the old-fashioned way, by turning out to march in the annual Rochester Labor Parade. Region 3 Coordinator Frank Besser reports the parade enjoyed its largest turnout ever this year. Taking part in the parade is a time-honored tradition for Region 3 members. ‘We turn out even when it does rain,’ Besser says. — Photo by John Prince
