Salaries soar for health care workers

Nearly 400 PEF members who are pharmacists, nurse practitioners and physician assistants will see a salary increase as the state Division of Budget (DOB) approved a significant reallocation for these titles in August. It is the largest reallocation in recent civil service history.

The approved reallocations range between four and eight salary grades.

“This is a result of PEF’s relentless advocacy for health care professionals, which began in earnest in 2000 when PEF submitted a reallocation request for numerous health care titles,” said PEF President Roger Benson.

The reallocation for the seven pharmacist titles went into effect September 1. The reallocation for the nurse practitioner and physician assistant titles will be effective January 5, 2006.

According to the Department of Civil Service, the delay in the effective date for the nurse practitioner and physician assistant titles is to facilitate recruitment by state agencies for those titles.

If you are a pharmacist 1, 2, 3, or 4, a pharmacy consultant, a supervisor in EPIC pharmacy unit, a supervisor in pharmacy practice and regulation, a nurse practitioner or physician assistant, you can get more information including your specific salary grade increase on the PEF Website, www.pef.org.
