Good 1st step on ; Now, the work gets harder

We’ve worked hard through our Go Public campaign to raise the public’s awareness of wasteful state contracting, privatization and the pay-to-play mentality so pervasive in government today.
Article after article in newspapers across the state are now covering the waste and corruption we have fought to expose and prevent.
On August 23, our efforts began to pay off when the governor signed our bill restricting contract lobbying.
However, the second of our two bills to pass the Legislature, the disclosure bill, S.1920, faces stiff opposition from consultant groups and their lobbyists; in fact the Business Council has already voiced its strong opposition to the bill.
PEF is preparing one last push on this bill before it is delivered to the governor. We have received the endorsements of legislative leaders, the state attorney general and comptroller, and we are working to gain endorsements of the bill from newspapers across the state.
We’ve come a long way in a short time in our efforts against contracting out and privatization, and win or lose, we have positioned government accountability and our Go Public bills as an issue for the next gubernatorial election.
Our fight is not over and will not end until all of our bills are passed and signed into law.
