EAT AT YOUR OWN RISK

Keep the food inspectors at a safe level.
WARNING: The state Executive Budget could make you sick.

Just five years ago, a law was passed that strengthened New York’s food safety inspection program. Now the state wants to weaken the very same program by imposing cuts.

The state Executive Budget would reduce the number of inspectors and replace annual inspections of food stores with risk-based inspections.

If these cuts are enacted, thousands of inspections of food retailers will go undone. The likelihood of unsanitary conditions and food-borne diseases will increase. Annual inspections ensure our food is properly handled and stored.

The ratio of food inspectors to food establishments in New York state remains dangerously low according to the NYS Assembly Standing Committee on Agriculture.

Call your legislators and the governor toll free at 1-877-255-9417, and tell them to keep the food inspectors at a safe level and reject risk-based inspection of our food. Bon Appétit New Yorkers!
