The closure would mean residents would have to travel 70 miles round trip to the nearest Department of Labor office.  St. Lawrence County has one of the highest unemployment rates in the state and the Department of Labor’s office in Massena is one of the busiest in the North Country.  The office serves thousands of local residents seeking employment services.  With Alcoa and General Motors facing financial difficulties — job security is a major concern in Massena.  Why would anyone want to make it  harder for residents to get much needed employment services including access to job training. Tell the governor and commissioner of labor that enough is enough. Keep job training and employment services close by, and where they are needed most.
