Furlough adFurloughs?

Not the "F" word we had in mind.

How about  Fairness?

Choose fairness over furloughs.

The governor’s plan to furlough state employees is unfair to New Yorkers and unfair to the state work force.

The furlough plan puts at risk state services New Yorkers rely on, drains money from the state economy, and could cost the state of as much as $20 million in federal funding. Not to mention the devastating impact it would have on the employees who will lose 20 percent of their pay every payday until a budget is passed.

Other states that have furloughed their employees have not saved as much as they expected because they lost tax revenue the employees would have generated.

The impact from the loss of economic activity could cost the state more than half a billion dollars and 17,000 jobs, most of them in the private sector.

The state has better ways to save the money it needs. PEF has offered proposals that will save money without affecting vital state services.

We have and continue to do our share to help out in this fiscal crisis. Tell the governor and Legislature furloughs are not the way to go.

We all deserve better; and “fairness” is the word we had in mind. Call 1-877-255-9417
