8,900 layoffs, are you kidding?
Why aren’t you listening?

For as long as the governor has been warning of the fiscal crisis, PEF and CSEA have offered suggestions for saving MORE money than his layoffs, but he won’t listen.

The governor’s plan to lay off 8,900 state employees will devastate New York’s economy with a ripple effect that will cost an additional 70,000 jobs, making our problems worse, not better.

If you won’t listen to us, listen to the experts.

“…what makes this recovery plan so important is not just that it will create or save 3.5 million jobs over the next two years …. It’s that we’re putting Americans to work ….” — President Obama (2/17/09)

“It’s true that the economy is currently shrinking. But that’s the result of a slump in private spending. It makes no sense to add to the problem by cutting public spending, too.” — Nobel Prize winner Paul Krugman (12/28/08)

“In a recession, you want to raise or not decrease the level of total spending — by households, businesses and government — in the economy. That keeps people employed and buying things, and makes it more likely that businesses will want to invest to serve that consumer demand.” — Nobel Prize winner Joseph Stiglitz (3/27/08)

Governor, listen to the experts.

Call the Governor at 1-877-255-9417, tell him to, “Stop the layoffs.
Stop playing politics with New York’s future.
