Where
is the safety net for people with mental illness in Oneida County?
The
state Office of Mental Health (OMH) is moving forward with plans to
eliminate long term-adult inpatient services for the mentally ill in
Oneida County. The adult inpatient wards at Mohawk Valley Psychiatric
Center (MVPC) are set to close May 7.
Not only will the region have to absorb the loss of 140 jobs, those who
rely on these critical services will be transferred, in some cases, more
than an hour away from their families — their support network.
Call the governor at 1-877-255-9417 and tell him the decision to
diminish services at MVPC is not prudent or fiscally sound.
