An
Open letter to:NYS Commissioner of Health Dr. Antonia Novello, NYS Budget Director Carole Stone, Governor George Pataki, The NYS Legislature, and Comptroller Alan Hevesi Contracting out civil service jobs at the state Health Department wastes hundreds of millions of taxpayers dollars and jeopardizes our health. The Health Department pays contractors double the cost for services provided by civil service hospital, nursing home, and medical facility surveyors. New York taxpayers deserve a better, more efficient Health Department a department run by qualified civil servants, not politically connected contractors. New York cannot afford this patronage, in good or bad economic times. If the Health Department replaced overpaid contractors with high-quality civil service professionals, the state could save MORE THAN $100 MILLION DOLLARS per year. Stop the shell game. Stop hiding revenues and concealing wasteful contract payments using your shadow agency, Health Research Incorporated. New Yorks taxpayers deserve better.
