Right
now, the last thing state taxpayers need is another state agency! The Procurement Services Group has been operating smoothly, efficiently and effectively within the state Office of General Services (OGS) for years. But now, at a time when all agencies are being asked to find ways to cut costs, the governor’s budget proposal includes a plan to create costs. The Executive Budget proposal would create a new agency, the state Office of Procurement Services (OPS), by peeling off the Procurement Services Group from OGS. This is nothing more than another level of bureaucracy at a time when all of us are being asked to cut back. The Procurement Services Group provides contracts for supplies and materials for all state agencies, local governments and school districts to use. We can see no rationale for this ill-advised proposal. The creation of a new agency is a waste of taxpayer’s dollars. Tell the governor and legislative leaders if it’s not broken, don’t fix it! There is a better way. Log onto www.pef.org Call the Governor 1-877-255-9417. Tell him to CUT THE WASTE, NOT THE WORKERS!
