IN THE DARK
What would you do if the state closed its only school that provides specialty programs for your blind and disabled child?

The New York State School for the Blind has been providing high quality educational programs for the blind and disabled for nearly 140 years. Teachers have been able to provide a foundation of learning to enable each student to achieve their highest level of independence, to become a contributing member in a diverse society, and to afford them the ability to live in the least restrictive environment.

The school offers an educational resource and environment that affords opportunities to blind children that are unavailable in school districts, Board of Cooperative Educational Services programs and in private programs.

Yet, deliberate actions by the State Education Department (SED) are placing the school and its students in jeopardy.

It is SED’s job to make sure the educational needs of blind students with multiple disabilities are met. SED wants to abandon the school and its students by walking away from its responsibility to operate the school.

Help keep the vision. Don’t let SED close the New York State School for the Blind
