I urge you all to contribute time and energy on behalf of candidates you support. Check the list of PEF political endorsements on pages 12-13 of this magazine and contact the PEF Legislative office at 1-800-724-4997 to volunteer.
Many of you have questions about the options for renewing your PEF Retirees membership, particularly why we charge $15 for renewals paid by check when the annual dues are just $12.
The extra $3 covers the additional work required for the renewal notification and check processing, and was authorized by the PEF Retirees Executive Board at its February 2001 meeting.
To avoid this $3 surcharge: Fill out and submit a dues-deduction card authorizing the state Retirement System to automatically deduct $1 per month from your pension check for PEF Retirees dues. The automatic deduction is far less labor intensive for you and for us, because you only have to do it once and we only have to process it once. That leaves a lot more time to work for you.
Since annual renewals come due at different times for different members, we must send out renewal notices every month for members renewing by check and we process renewal checks every week.
The automatic dues deduction is available to anyone who is renewing and receives a pension check from the NY State and Local Employees Retirement System. We mail you an enrollment card with each renewal notice. Unfortunately, the automatic-dues-deduction option is not available for initial memberships, so we charge just $12 for initial dues paid by check.
